The Helsinki School, run by the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture, is again taking part in the world's largest exhibition of photographic art, which will be held in the glass exhibition hall of the historic Grand Palais in Paris on 14 - 17 November, 2013.

The annual Paris Photo fair is seen as one of the most important art fairs in the world; the Helsinki School has participated in the event for 10 years running.

Taking part in the fair will be a carefully selected group of 136 galleries from 30 countries representing top-level photographic art.

‘The Helsinki School  is the only Finnish entity to take part in Paris Photo, and it is the only gallery run by a school of arts in such an arena’, says Professor Jyrki Parantainen of the degree programme in photography.

The event gives Aalto University photography students, alumni and teachers the possibility to showcase their production in a key international arena and to expand their professional network. Taking part in the effort are curators, gallery owners, representatives of museums, collectors, critics and publishers, as well as the international press and the public at large.

The internationally renowned Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards competition will also be held in connection with Paris Photo. The competition concentrates on photographic publications, and this year it will include the illustrated work ’Nine Nameless Mountains’, which was produced by the Monday Collective, comprising eight Aalto University photography students.  The same work is in the running for the annual German Photo Book Prize for 2014. The book has been entered as a potential winner of either the gold or silver award in the category of photographic works of conceptual art.

The Helsinki School comprises photographers, who are studying or have studied at the School of Art, Design, and Architecture or who teach there. They are united by their conceptual approach to photographic art. With its active exhibition and publication activities, the Helsinki School promotes Aalto University's internationalisation by making the works of its artists known at various art fairs and exhibitions around the world.  Gallery Taik Persons, a gallery space which represents Helsinki School artists, has operated in Berlin since 2003.
