Aalto University participates in designing the concepts of the exhibition spaces of the Expo Milano 2015 world exposition. The representatives of the Department of Architecture and Department of Design of the School of Arts, Design and Architecture take part in a multidisciplinary workshop in Milan during September and October 2012. The aim of the workshop is to design a concept for the Clusters, which group different countries within the same architectural project.
The Expo Milano 2015 world exposition will be organized in Milan 1.5.-31.10.2015. The theme of the expo is “Feeding the Planet – Energy for Life”, which concerns the prospects of continuous growth from the perspective of the Earth’s possibilities and limitations. The participants are hoped to provide innovative solutions to the combinations formed up from the theme’s keywords: agriculture, nutrition and well-being – traditions, creativity and innovations.
The Politecnico di Milano has invited Aalto University and other top universities of the world to take part in the architectural workshop. The aim of the three week workshop is to design a concept for the nine Expo Milano 2015 Clusters, which gather together several countries within the same pavilion building as thematic clusters.
The World Expo is organized every five years. Previously it was held at Shanghai in 2010 with “Better City, Better Life” as its theme. The Expo Milano 2015 expects 140 participating countries and 20 million visitors.
