Aalto University admits 1720 new students – 16 % of applicants gain admission

A total of 1720 students were admitted to Aalto University in its spring application round.
372 of the newly-admitted students, will start at the School of Engineering, 391 at the School of Economics, 188 at the School of Chemical Technology, 276 at the School of Science, 319 at the School of Electrical Engineering and 174 at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture.
The number of applicants to Aalto University in the spring application round was 10472. Of these, 16,4 % gained admission.
In addition, in the application period for master's programmes, 1037 applicants secured a place to study. There were a total of 4032 applicants for the Aalto University master's programmes.
The Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture received a total of 666 first-choice applicants through the DIA application process for Architecture and Landscape Architecture. Of those, 55 were admitted.
The four Schools of Technology maintained their popularity
A total of 1210 new students were admitted to the Aalto University Schools of Technology, that is, the Schools of Engineering, Chemical Technology, Science as well as Electrical Engineering and School of Arts, Design and Architecture. The students were selected through the joint application process for university education in engineering and architecture (DIA), the Information Networks degree programme application process and separate application processes. Altogether, this year the number of first-choice applicants in the first-stage selections for technological and scientific education was 4253 in all selection categories. Compared to the year 2011, the number of applicants increased by two per cents. The share of women was over 27 %.
In the earlier master's-stage application process that ended in spring, 1699 applications from 75 different countries were submitted to the Aalto University Schools of Technology. A total of 1434 eligible applicants made their way to the academic evaluation stage. Of these, 573 were admitted to the School of Engineering, School of Chemical technology, School of Sciences, School of Electrical Engineering and School of Arts, Design and Architecture.
