Aalto University Magazine – an innovative university publication
31.10.2011
Aalto University will begin publishing Aalto University Magazine, a new magazine for the university’s interest groups. The first issue will come out at the turn of October and November and cover risks and entrepreneurship.
The magazine, mainly aimed at alumni and partners, presents Aalto University’s important role in building a better world and a stronger Finland. The magazine also discusses the multidisciplinary nature of the university community, which entails encounters between technology, art and economics.
“The name directly tells you what the magazine is about. Although the content will mainly be in Finnish, we wanted a name that would enable changing the main language in the future. We want to use the magazine to make the activities of our new university known both in Finland and abroad. It will present fresh ideas, surprising points of view, and have a strong visual appearance that is new to university magazines,” says editor-in-chief and Communications Manager Eveliina Olsson.
Alma 360 Asiakasmedia participated in creating the magazine concept. The partnership began in spring 2011 and the magazine was planned during several workshops led by Alma 360. In addition to the editorial staff of the magazine, university experts, staff and students also participated in these workshops.
“It has been delightful that our own experts have been so committed to creating the new magazine,” Olsson commends.
The editorial content of the magazine will be produced by Aalto University Communications. The graphic design of the first issue has been created by student Juho Hiilivirta from the Aalto University School of Art and Design. Students will take responsibility for the graphic design of each issue. The majority of the magazine’s photographers and illustrators will also come from the School of Art and Design.
Starting next year, Aalto University Magazine will be issued four times a year. Each issue will discuss one topical theme from various viewpoints. The magazine will be mailed to registered alumni and it will also be available on Aalto University campuses.
