Cumulus Helsinki 2012: Call for papers opened

Aalto University School of Art and Design will host the Cumulus conference in May 2012. The conference, titled Northern World Mandate – Towards Open and Participative Cities, now invites proposals for papers.
The contents of the conference will be closely connected with the theme of the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012: Open Helsinki – Embedding Design in Life. The conference will, however, go deeper and be centred around the topic “Open, participative city: how design knowledge can support public services in the development of open, participative city environment”.
The Cumulus conference organizing committee has announced the first call for abstracts/proposals for papers from the following themes:
1. OPEN, INTERACTIVE CITY
2. INNOVATIVE SERVICES
3. DESIGNING SUSTAINABILITY
4. WHAT IS ARTISTIC RESEARCH?
5. DIALOGUE OF ART AND DESIGN IN EDUCATION
6. FUNCTION OF ART IN CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY
Online system for submissions will open at the end of October 2011, and close on 15 November, 2011. The Academic Board of the conference will review and select the proposals. The Academic Board consists of the following persons from the Aalto University:

Dr. Tuuli Mattelmäki, industrial design
Professor Teemu Mäki, fine arts
Professor Eija Nieminen, sustainable innovation
Professor Maija Rautamäki, landscape architecture
The Cumulus conference, interlinked with the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012, will be held in the premises of Aalto University, at the School of Art and Design in Helsinki, Finland and in the neighboring city of Espoo.
