Admission results for BA programmes at the Aalto University School of Art and Design released

A total of 2 818 hopefuls interested in pursuing studies in the field of applied art applied for the Aalto University School of Art and Design this year. Out of the total number of applicants, 11.6 per cent were accepted for MA or BA programmes in the field of applied art.
The number of applicants for BA programmes was 1 856, out of whom 129 gained admittance. This meant a 13 per cent decrease compared to the record-breaking year 2010 that was also the year of establishment of Aalto University.
Degree programmes in Film and Television, Art Education and Photography received the most applications.
The number of applicants for MA programmes was 962, out of whom 198 gained admittance. The number of applicants dropped by 6 per cent compared to 2010.
Based on the number of applicants, the three most popular MA programmes were Industrial and Strategic Design, New Media (in English) and Graphic Design.
The proportion of foreign applicants for the MA programmes continued to grow. This year the applicants hailed from 67 different countries. The share of foreign applicants for the MA programmes was 52.8 per cent when last year it was 37 per cent. After Finland, the largest number of applications came from China, South Korea, Taiwan and Iran.
The total number of applicants for both BA and MA programmes has shown a steady increase in recent years. The year 2010 was an exception, as the launch of Aalto University saw the number of applicants shoot to unprecedented heights.
The final admission results for the MA programmes were published at the end of May and for BA programmes on 23 June.
The results for other Aalto University bachelor’s degree programmes will be released on 8 July.
